His liturgical works, commentaries on the scriptures, moral and ascetic treatises remain memorable documents of the Magisterium and the art of government. Recognized leader in the Western Church, which also instils the riches of the Eastern tradition, extended its influence throughout the Latin world. In times of great cultural and social transformer, its shape was imposed as a symbol of freedom and peace. He gave particular emphasis to the pastoral values \u200b\u200bof virginity and martyrdom. Author of famous liturgical texts, is considered the father of the Ambrosian liturgy.
